Xbox has announced a new Xbox Games Showcase for 2024 cheekily titled “Xbox Games Showcase followed by [REDACTED] Direct”. As can be seen from the heading, Xbox will hold two presentations: A main one for all first and third generation games and a second dedicated exclusively to an unnamed project. The format is not new, since the company issued the Starfield Direct right after last year’s Xbox Games Showcase 2023.
The Xbox Games Showcase 2024 date is set for June 9 and viewers will be able to watch live on the Xbox YouTube, Twitch and Facebook pages at 10 am PT/ 1 pm ET/ 7 pm CET. The second secret title showcase will take place immediately afterward.
What to expect from Xbox Games Showcase 2024
The Xbox Games Showcase 2024 will contain games from the company’s 1st party studios, including Xbox Game Studios, Bethesda and Activision/Blizzard. We may also see some new hardware announcements, as last year the company revealed the 1TB Xbox Series S (Buy it on Amazon).
Xbox has many titles in the works. For example, there are games like Perfect Dark, State of Decay 3 and Everwild that we have seen very little of and that are awaiting an update. Then there are titles like Clockwork Revolution and South of Midnight that debuted last year.
Fable, one of the most anticipated games from Playground Games, has been in development since at least 2017. The game should be present at the showcase with, hopefully, extensive gameplay sequences and a release date. Plus, there’s a pretty good chance we’ll know the release date for Starfield’s first DLC expansion, “Shattered Space,” coming this fall, Avowed, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
“Gears 6,” the next installment in the long-running Gears of War series, is also rumored to be revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase 2024. The Coalition, the studio behind the franchise, has remained silent since the release of Gears 5 in 2019. Should Gears 6 be announced, we can expect the game to have some mind-blowing visuals as The Coalition is no stranger to delivering impressive results with the Unreal Engine.
Finally, with more than 30 total studios under Xbox’s wing, there’s plenty of potential for surprise announcements. So even your wildest wishes, like a new Banjo-Kazooie, can come true.
Call of Duty Black: Black Ops Gulf War
Although Xbox has not given any clues as to which title will be shown during the second presentation, many believe it will be the next Call of Duty installment.
For people who aren’t aware, Call of Duty receives a new installment every year, with the latest three games being Call of Duty: Vanguard (2021), Modern Warfare II (2022), and Modern Warfare III (2023). This year’s CoD is rumored to be a Black Ops game called “Black Ops Gulf War.”
Unfortunately, we don’t know many details about Call of Duty Black Ops Gulf War, if it is called that.
Lastly, Call of Duty was at the center of Microsoft’s fight with the FTC regarding its acquisition of Activision/Blizzard. Therefore, it will be interesting to see if the company keeps Call of Duty completely cross-platform or if Xbox/Game Pass gets some exclusive content.
