AMD confirms that sales of its Radeon GPUs have plummeted by 48% and its new graphics card requires an 850W power supply

The Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) Industry has constantly witnessed the fight between the giants amd and Nvidia, a rivalry that has driven significant technological advances and has given rise to a wide range of innovative products that have revolutionized the field of graphics processing. From improving the gaming experience to driving high-performance computing in fields like artificial intelligence and machine learning, these two companies have been at the forefront of innovation in the GPU industry.

Over the years, AMD has been working tirelessly to challenge the dominance established by Nvidia in the GPU market. With the launch of its line of Radeon GPUAMD has sought to offer competitive alternatives to Nvidia’s offerings, promoting diversity and choice for consumers, however, despite AMD’s efforts, Nvidia has maintained its dominant position.

This decline in AMD was reflected in the fact that is having difficulty selling its Radeon GPUs And worse still, the decline in sales not only covers the last two financial quarters, but also applies to year-on-year figures.

In its Q1 FY24 statement, AMD reports revenue of $5.5 billion, up 2% from last year, driven primarily by its ‘Data Center’ and ‘Client’ segments, which have increased by 80% and 85%, respectively, however, revenue from its ‘Embedded’ segment have decreased by 46% year-on-year, but the biggest drop comes from ‘Gaming’, with a painful 48%.

On its own, this sharp decline is worrying, but paired with the knowledge that this has decreased 33% from the previous quarter, gives even more reason for alarm.

These figures confirm what could be partially deduced from the Steam Hardware Survey, in which the Radeon RX 7900 XTX remains the only graphics card from AMD’s current generation that gets an individual place outside the ‘Other’ categorization. Even so, his 0.16% It doesn’t compare to other cards, even the GeForce RTX 4090 is more popular than any other AMD GPU.

Although he disinterest in Radeon graphics cards is partly responsible for the decline in revenue, AMD is also suffering from a slowdown in console sales. So much Xbox Series X, Sas PlayStation 5 they use SoCs personalized with Radeon graphics and the recent sales figures for any of them are not fantastic, even the popularity of Steam Deck and other portable devices, such as ROG Allyhave not proven to be very supportive.

In the midst of this panorama, it is evident that AMD needs to change its approach to revitalize the Radeon brand, although it faces difficulties, there is hope that AMD can replicate the success it has had with its Ryzen processors. Competition in the GPU market is crucial to foster innovation and provide choice to consumers, and AMD remains the only significant competition for Nvidia’s GeForce GPUs, especially while Intel is still exploring its own path with Arc.

New AMD graphics card requires an 850W power supply

XFX has introduced the XFX Radeon RX 7900 XTX Phoenix Nirvanaan improved version of the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX with a phase change thermal pad and considerably high power requirements, needing a power supply of at least 850W. This graphics card has an impressive design, with dimensions of 34.6 x 13.2 x 6.8 cm and three 8-pin power sockets, it also incorporates a robust cooling system with six heatpipes and a heat sink with 216 fins to ensure optimal thermal performance even under intense loads.

A notable feature is the use of the heating pad phase change Honeywell PTM 7950 instead of standard thermal paste, providing effective and long-lasting thermal performance. Although it offers exceptional performance, its price of 7,899RMB (approximately $1,050,000 Chilean pesos) and limited availability to the Chinese market may limit its accessibility to consumers outside of China.

Meanwhile, there are more affordable options on the market, such as other variants of the RX 7900 XTX and discounts on RX 7900 XT. However, the XFX Radeon RX 7900 XTX Phoenix Nirvana remains an attractive option for those looking for exceptional performance and willing to invest in a high-end graphics card.
