A new “boom” in the field of Artificial Intelligence. OpenAI has introduced GPT-4o (“or” from “omni”), representing a significant leap in the democratization of AI, thanks to the launch of new and disruptive tools. How does this milestone impact Generative AI enabling companies and end consumers like us?

First thing’s first.

Making GPT-4o available in the free version of ChatGPT, with similar capabilities to GPT-4 in its premium tier, increases overall adoption. Now, let’s add to this additional features such as real-time web browsing, data analysis, GPT Store, a new desktop application for macOS (and soon for Windows) and the previous possibility of using GPT without registering, which will decant in obtaining of millions of new users with the ability to try the most advanced features of the technology and experiment with their own use cases.

As if this were not enough, paid users will still have a capacity limit five times greater than free users.

GPT-4o is twice as fast and 50% cheaper than GPT-4 Turbo. It features a new user interface that includes the ability to interact with ChatGPT on a more conversational level including emotive voice features and video sharing as a starting point, transforming ChatGPT into a more dynamic virtual assistant.

Strategically, it looks like OpenAI is poised to capture more market share and then introduce new, probably mind-blowing GPT-5 and AI agents for paid users. Which also means that competitors will have to prepare to react to this bold move, which could consequently lead to the release of more accessible versions from Google, Anthropic and others in the short term.

What does this mean for companies? Use cases such as real-time translation or speech generation are becoming more accessible, possibly with higher quality and lower costs, which is putting significant pressure on startups like ElevenLabs or Wordly.ai.

In response, companies will need to quickly focus on developing architectures with flexible solutions that easily replace their base model should it be required at any time.

For those companies that do not adjust their pre-trained model, their focus in solution development should be on prioritizing integration within the existing ecosystem and coordinating updates to their baseline AI model, maintaining a balance between revenue, results and customer experience. user, which in turn implies the incorporation of some open source solutions and APIs of cutting-edge proprietary models.

So buckle up, keep your pace reasonable, and get excited to embrace the new democratized AI!
