Activision rejected these remakes in favor of Call of Duty

A few years ago, Activision gave the green light to a series of projects that sought to bring back the glories of the past with franchises that were at the top at the time. The remakes of great platforms were well received and taking advantage of a renewed interest in the world of skateboarding, the company approved Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 obtaining very good results. Fans were waiting for the next titles, but this did not happen and the reason was only recently revealed.

Vicarious Vision wanted to work on Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4

During the recent episode of the channel’s documentary series DidYouKnowGaming On YouTube, journalist Liam Robertson revealed details of Activision’s rejection of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 which was planned in Vicarious Visions following the success of the first remake. According to the information, the response to the first installment motivated the studio to think about the next 2 games in the franchise inspired by the historical Tony Hawk, so the possibility of its development was considered.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 was the start of more projects, but Activision rejected them

Why wasn’t there Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4?

Unfortunately, when presenting the project Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 to the directors of Activision, the company rejected it because it already had plans for the study. First, that I would use them as support for the deliveries of Call of Duty which by 2020 and 2021 had become a multiplayer platform with the release of Warzone. They were then commissioned to Diablo II: Resurrected.

The closeness with Blizzard and Activision’s disinterest in other IPs resulted in the end of the Vicarious Visions story and in 2022 they were absorbed, giving rise to Blizzard Albany. Sadly, this story seems to confirm that there will be no Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4so it’s time to enjoy the first 2 installments in their most recent version.

Still here, at LEVEL UP.
