Amid so much turbulence in the gaming industry, several studios of all sizes are working on projects that are not even officially announced until they are ready. Sometimes even these projects fail to take off and are even canceled before we can discover they existed. A particular case is what happened with Remedythe study of Alan Wake and Controlwhich announced the cancellation of its multiplayer project simply known Codename Kestrelof which very few details were known.

The news was announced through a statement published by Remedywhere the CEO of the studio Tero Virtala explained the reasons behind this cancellation. “The decision to cancel Codename Kestrel allows you to Remedy focus more on other games in your portfolio”Virtala stated. According to the executive, this game was a promising project, but had not yet passed the concept stage. Remedy clarified that the rest of its projects are still underway, and that the staff who were working on Codename Kestrel will be transferred to these other projects. This project was being financed by the Chinese giant Tencentbut it is still not clear what the role of this company will be in the future of the company after this cancellation, taking into account that recently Tencent had increased its participation in the percentage of shares of Remedy.

Little was known about Codename Kestrel how I play. Initially this project had been announced under the name Vanguard as an online cooperative title free-to-playbut last year the project was restarted, and along with its name change it was also said that it would become a premium title. Codename Kestrel would use many of the elements already designed for Vanguard, such as its game mechanics. According to comments made in Vanguard’s initial announcement, this game would be the first approach of Remedy to the world of games as a service. Now, the only multiplayer title still in development at the studio will be the Codename Condor project, a PvE game based on the universe of Control.

On the other hand, the studio is also working on remakes of Max Payne and Max Payne 2while also preparing DLC content for Alan Wake 2.
