The GeForce GTX 1080 Ti is still fighting 7 years after its launch and performs better than the RTX 4060 in some games

In a world where technology advances by leaps and bounds, seven years can seem like an eternity in the field of graphics cards. However, the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, launched in 2017 as the undisputed queen of gaming, refuses to give ground. And now Hardware Unboxed, a well-known YouTube channel specialized in hardware, has recently published a new performance analysis of this legendary GPU, evaluating its ability to handle the most demanding games recently released.

Based on its test results, Hardware Unboxed indicates that the GTX 1080 Ti offers solid performance at 1080p, even outperforming some newer graphics cards like the GeForce RTX 4060. And at 1440p, the GTX 1080 Ti provides a smooth gaming experience in most titles, approaching the performance of the Radeon RX 5700 XT. Details that for many gamers must sound surprising, to say the least, since they show that despite its age, this GPU continues to offer solid performance in both resolutions, especially in 1080p.

As can be seen in the video from this tech and gamer channel, in titles like Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty, the GTX 1080 Ti reaches an average of 79 FPS with high quality. In Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, the fluidity is close to 120 FPS with very high quality, ranking above the Radeon RX 6700 XT. The graphics card also performs smoothly in 1440p resolution. In this case, the average FPS rate is around 46 FPS, approaching the performance of the Radeon RX 5700 XT. Games like Avatar Frontiers of Pandora run at 53 FPS on average at medium quality, while Counter Strike 2 hits an impressive 322 FPS at the same quality settings. Horizon Forbidden West, for its part, offers a fluid experience at 63 FPS in medium quality.

And according to other YouTube videos where they have tested the card, in the Ghost of Tsushima port for PC it reaches an average of 47 FPS in high graphics options, while Helldivers 2 is around 63 FPS on average in the same settings.

It should be noted that the GTX 1080 Ti, being based on the Pascal architecture, does not have tensor cores or RT cores for ray tracing. This means that, to enjoy this technology in compatible games, it is necessary to resort to techniques such as AMD FSR or Intel XeSS under DP4a.

But given all this wonder, it is important to emphasize that although the GTX 1080 Ti continues to prove to be a very capable graphics card, it is a GPU from seven years ago and that there are new generations of cards that offer superior performance, especially when it comes to to ray tracing and other technologies.

Ghost of Tsushima for PC is tested on 35 different GPUs and rated as an outstanding port, being superior to its version on PlayStation 5

The launch of the acclaimed Ghost of Tsushima on the PC platform has been a resounding success, attracting the attention of gamers around the world. The adaptation of this action and adventure title, originally developed by Sucker Punch Productions and now ported by Nixxes, has been received with enthusiasm by the gaming community.

In the midst of this enthusiasm, a media dedicated to technology has evaluated how Ghost of Tsushima performs on a wide range of hardware configurations, using no less than 35 different graphics cards. This comprehensive analysis provides a detailed look at game performance under various conditions, offering valuable information for those looking to maximize their PC gaming experience.
