Computex 2024 | Intel gives details of the new Lunar Lake processors for laptops with artificial intelligence

Within the framework of the Computex 2024 technology event, Intel has presented some details of its latest innovation in processors for laptop computers: the Lunar Lake, designed to improve performance and energy efficiency in the PC segment with artificial intelligence (AI).

These new chips represent an evolution over the previous generation, Meteor Lake, providing up to 40 percent more system-on-chip (SoC) power and tripling AI computing capacity.

Lunar Lake processors are equipped with a combination of performance cores (P cores) and efficiency cores (E cores), optimized to deliver improvements in overall performance and energy efficiency. Besides, incorporate a fourth generation Intel neural processing unit (NPU) capable of reaching up to 48 tera-operations per second (TOPS).

One of the standout features of Lunar Lake is its new GPU design called Battlemage, which combines Xe2 cores for graphics and Xe Matrix Extension (XMX) matrices for AI. The Xe2 cores improve graphics performance by 1.5 times over the previous generation, while the XMX dies provide a second AI accelerator with up to 67 TOPS of performance.

This combination offers graphics and AI processing capacity suitable for the creation of resource-intensive content and applications.

Another key innovation of Lunar Lake processors is its low-power unit, a computing cluster that manages background and productivity tasks, extending the battery life of laptops.

Intel has announced that it is already supplying these processors on a large scale, and they are expected to be present in more than 80 different AI PC designs from 20 original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
