There is very little left to know what iOS 18 will finally bring. Everything indicates that there will be a lot of artificial intelligence, applications redesigned by Apple… A latest rumor from Mark Gurman adds fuel to the fire and states that Apple will bring a standalone application that many of us were waiting for.

Apple would add a password manager application to the iPhone

Currently, and for years, We have the well-known iCloud keychain. This is a functionality that stores our users and passwords for different websites and applications. Additionally, through Safari, we can also store credit cards, regardless of whether the website supports Apple Pay or not.

This is really useful, since allows us to have much more secure passwords thanks to the fact that we only have to put our face so that Face ID enters the “real” password of the website or application. However, arriving at these passwords is somewhat cumbersomesince they are within the Settings application, and the cards that I mentioned before are not there, but in the Safari section.

Current password management is done from Safari

with a world receiving more cyber attacks than ever, and with more and more websites and services available, accessing this password section is highly recommended. Inside of her, Apple gives us information about whether our passwords have been leaked or they are too weak. To facilitate this, so that we can find them sooner and manage them better, Apple would create a dedicated application for password managementthus freeing up the settings panel, which is also rumored to be redesigned.

This will be the iOS 18 password application

As Mark Gurman indicates for Bloomberg, Apple’s password application will be available for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Vision Pro. An application has even been developed for Windows. Additionally, the app will be able to import service passwords like the well-known 1Password.

Internally, the application has a list of usernames and will have different categories: accounts, Wi-Fi networks, access keys and two-factor authentication services. Similar to what Google Authenticator offers. The name of the application would be to be defined, and could be a simple “Passwords” or something more elaborate like “Keychain”.

Remember that in macOS there is already an application called “Keychain Access” that overlaps with password functions that we find in the macOS Settings. So much so that when you open it, Apple asks you if you really want to open “Keychain Access.” With macOS 15 both options would be unified, facilitating the search for both passwords and digital certificates.

Currently the Mac has two Apple password managers

There is very little left to finally know iOS 18 and from Applesfera we will do special coverage of the entire event. From the main news, how to try iOS 18 before anyone else, and first-person sensations, since our colleague Pedro Aznar will be in Cupertino experiencing WWDC 2024 first-hand.
