NEW YORK – Apple is preparing to launch its first wave of user-oriented artificial intelligence (AI) products at its annual WWDC developer conference starting Monday, according to the trade press.

Among the announcements that Tim Coook, the CEO of the apple company, could give in his speech a major AI update for his assistant Siri, which would reach users next year as an iOS 18 update, according to Bloomberg.

The new version of Siri – which was released in 2011 – could be able to analyze the user’s phone activity, such as messages or notes. According to the media, at first Siri will only be able to control functions in applications created by Apple.

At the moment, Siri would only be able to process one command at a time, but the apple company would be working on making the assistant capable of processing multiple tasks in a single request.

“We expect Apple to unveil its largest and most important AI-enabled software overhaul at WWDC 2024,” Morgan Stanley analyst Erik Woodring wrote in his report this week.

Apple’s large language model (LLM), called Ajax, would power these features. The apple company has been using AI to power its devices for years, but this would be the first time it has advertised it.

Experts also point out that Apple’s new phone, the iPhone 16, will come with on-device AI, that is, it will be able to process AI algorithms in the phone’s hardware.

Both Samsung and Pixel launched smartphones powered by Google AI last year.

Apple could also announce an agreement with leading AI companies, such as the American companies Google, OpenAI and Anthropic or the Chinese company Baidu. It could even open its ecosystem to all AI developers for deep integration into their devices, according to a Bloomberg report.

Other announcements that could be expected at WWDC, according to the outlet, are two new AirPods models and a new password app that would allow users to manage their login information.
