YouTube Music is working on a feature that could change the way users interact with playlists: voting for favorite playlists. This initiative, which has been discovered in the latest update of the Google app for Android, seems inspired by the feature that Spotify once offered and then removed.

More than a year ago, Spotify decided to remove the “like” feature for public playlists, opting instead for a “saves” counting system. This decision changed the dynamic of how users could interact with playlists.prioritizing the action of saving them in the personal library over the public vote on their popularity.

However, YouTube Music has decided to take a different path by reviving and improving this voting feature.

According to Android Authority, The Google platform is working on a feature that will allow users to not only play and save playlists, but also vote for them.

Version 7.05.52 of the YouTube Music Android app revealed important clues about how this new feature will work. Playlist creators will have fine-grained control over who can vote for their playlists.

Users will have the option to limit voting only to specific collaborators, open it to all users of the platform, or deactivate it completely if they wish. This flexibility ensures that the function can be adapted to different needs and contexts, providing a more personalized experience compared to current offerings from other platforms.

Previously, Spotify allowed users to “like” public playlists, thus showing the popularity of a playlist through a vote counter.

However, This system was later replaced by a “saved” counter, a format that does not generate the same interaction and response from the public that is interested in the lists. So this has brought the idea to YouTube.

While the introduction of the voting feature on YouTube Music has the potential to benefit both users and content creators. For users, this feature will provide a more direct and public way to express their music preferences.

Instead of simply saving a playlist, you’ll be able to vote for those you consider to be featured, helping other users discover popular, high-quality content.

On the other hand, for playlist creators, the voting feature will open up new opportunities to increase the visibility and reach of their creations.

YouTube Music has incorporated this feature that allows users to search for songs by humming the melody. This tool is an ideal solution for times when you forget the title or exact lyrics of a song. To use this option you must follow these steps:

  1. From your mobile phone you must press the voice search icon, located next to the traditional search button within the YouTube Music application.
  2. Immediately, you must select the option to search by song.
  3. You must hum or sing something that you remember from the song, so that the system processes the audio and, in a matter of seconds, can display the name of the song you are looking for.

This feature may not be available to all users yet, since it has been progressively rolling out in recent weeks on Android devices. In addition, it can be used regardless of whether you do not have the premium subscription.
