“We don’t want to wait another 25 years”, Baldur’s Gate 4 will change studios to accelerate its launch, leaving Larian Studios aside

Hasbro, the company that owns Dungeons & Dragons and its digital adaptations, has announced that it is already planning Baldur’s Gate 4, but with a different approach. And after the successful Baldur’s Gate 3 developed by Larian Studios, the company that owns the license has indicated that it is looking for another studio, leaving aside the Larian team.

As indicated in an interview, the current objective is to find a studio that can guarantee the quality of the saga, but in a shorter period. In this approach, the key point for the new installment will be the optimization of development time, considering that Baldur’s Gate 3 took 9 years to reach players, a period that Hasbro considers excessive. Eugene Evans, senior vice president of Hasbro, said: “We are taking the time to find the right partner, the right approach and the right product that can represent the future of Baldur’s Gate.”

“We don’t want another 25 years to pass, as happened between Baldur’s Gate 2 and 3,” he said.

The company also claims to be in contact with multiple candidates, but prioritizes meticulous selection to ensure that the next title receives the same care and dedication that Larian Studios gave to Baldur’s Gate 3. And although Larian moves away from the franchise, his work in the beloved Baldur’s Gate 3 has been recognized by Evans and company. The executive praised the effort and innovation present in the game, although he also acknowledged that delving too deeply into innovation can extend development.

“We’re talking to a lot of partners now and we’re being approached by a lot of partners who are taking on the challenge of what is the future of the Baldur’s Gate franchise going to look like?” Evans said.

The identity of the interested studios or the announcement date of the chosen one is unknown. However, Hasbro’s announcement suggests that Baldur’s Gate 4 is in an early stage of development and promises a more agile process. In any case, the success of Baldur’s Gate 3 leaves a high precedent, so fans hope that the new studio can honor the legacy of the franchise and push the RPG genre even further.

Bug lets thousands of players get Baldur’s Gate 3 for FREE, but Larian Studios decides to let them keep it anyway

Thousands of players have received Baldur’s Gate 3 for free without realizing it. However, developer Larian Studios does not consider it a serious problem and has decided to allow players to keep the game. Normally, when video game companies give something away by mistake, they usually fix it quickly. A free DLC or incorrect activation is fixed with a quick patch, however, Larian Studios has taken a different approach with Baldur’s Gate 3.

The problem arose with the physical version of the Collector’s Edition of Baldur’s Gate 3, which buyers had to wait a long time to receive, and many are still receiving it. Before the physical editions arrived, buyers received a key to unlock the Collector’s Edition DLC, which includes some cosmetic items.
