The co-founder and former chief scientist of OpenAIIlya Sutskever, announced this Wednesday on X that he has started a new artificial intelligence (AI) company focused on security that has no short-term intention of selling products or services.
The startup is called Safe Superintelligence Inc.Secure Superintelligence in Spanish (SSI), has offices in Palo Alto (California) and Tel Aviv, in Israel – the country where Sutskever grew up – and its objective and product is to create a safe and powerful artificial intelligence system.
“We are assembling an agile and competent team of the world’s best engineers and researchers dedicated to focusing on SSI and nothing else”, notes the company in a statement.
Sutskever told Bloomberg that SSI’s first product will be a secure superintelligence – technology that does not exist at the moment – and that the company “won’t do anything else” until then.

“(The company) Will be completely insulated from the external pressures of having to deal with a large, complicated product and being trapped in a rat race”, he noted to the media.
In addition to Sutskever, SSI is co-founded by Daniel Gross, former AI leader at Apple, and Daniel Levy, who was also part of the company that created ChatGPTOpenAI, according to The Verge.
Sutskever, in 2023, led an initiative to remove the current CEO of OpenAISam Altman, with whom he said he had a good relationship and this year he left the popular company, which is now associated with technology giants such as Apple and Microsoft.
Safe Superintelligence is, in a certain way, the return to the original concept of OpenAIwhich began as a non-profit organization.
