There are tens of thousands of different video games that have been published on all the platforms that have been manufactured, but not all of them can boast of being historic and known worldwide. For example, just by saying the name Tetris you already know what title it is and its objective. In fact, currently, its mobile version has made this puzzle game one of the best sellers in the world.

However, this time we have to talk about another of the most popular versions of all time, such as the one that accompanied the Game Boy during its launch. The reason is because this managed to enter the Guinness Book of Records in 1993 and it was all thanks to the Russian astronaut Aleksandr A. Serebrov and the love he had for this great Nintendo portable classic.

Aware that he was going to have to spend a lot of time away for this trip around the planet, he had the idea of taking something that could keep him entertained during his free time. So he thought that his Game Boy and a copy of Tetris It would be enough to have some very fun times during the 196 days that this space mission on which he had embarked lasted.

What he did not know at that time is that this simple fact would make him and the legendary Tetrisbecause it instantly became the first video game to be played in space, as can be seen in this official record. Of course, it is to be hoped that he was also loaded with a good pack of batteries, because he would have no choice to play the Game Boy for more than half a year.

Even so, the story of this portable console and the Tetris game did not end there. A couple of years before the death of Aleksandr A. Serebrov, the two products ended forming part of an auction in 2011as indicated in a Bonhams listing, accompanied by a note from the astronaut himself:

Like all cosmonauts, I love sports. My particular favorites are soccer and swimming. During the flight, in the rare minutes of leisure, he enjoyed playing the Game Boy.

The entire set was sold for an entire pasture. Exactly they were 1,220 dollars (about 1,140 euros) for obtaining this pack that allowed its new owner to say that he had in his hands a console and a video game that had been in space.
