Apple’s AirPods Pro are famous for their sound quality, and for their noise cancellation, which is what differentiates them from the AirPods 2 and AirPods 3. They have several modes, such as having noise cancellation on, off , or what is known as adaptive audio. This is a feature that automatically increases or decreases noise cancellation depending on the environment the user is in, the intensity of the noise outside, and the importance of the sounds around them. For example, if we are at a construction site, the AirPods Pro would block the noise of machinery, but if someone started talking to us, the AirPods would let that sound pass through so that we could hear it, because it is important. Now, those from Cupertino are working on a new functionality that takes this experience one step further. Or, at least, that’s what has been leaked.

Apple launched the AirPods Pro at the end of 2019, and since then they have become a true revolution in wireless noise-cancelling headphones. They are the industry standard for quality, comfort, battery and connectivity. They integrate instantly and automatically with all of their owners’ Apple devices, and are so comfortable that sometimes it is even difficult to recognize whether one is wearing them or not. Its noise cancellation is from another world, and those from the company with the bitten apple could be working on a way to customize it to our liking to give us more control over its key feature.

AirPods Pro: customization to power

As we said, so far, the AirPods Pro have had four modes: noise cancellation on, noise cancellation off, transparency mode, and adaptive audio. Now, according to Headphonesty A new one would be added, although we do not know the name that the marketing team would give it. According to this medium, this functionality would come in the form of a firmware update – so it does not seem like something reserved for future models – and would add that mode of custom adaptive audio.

Adaptive audio is great in situations where we don’t always need transparency mode, but we don’t always need noise cancellation. It adapts to circumstances, as inferred from its own name. Of course, sometimes this causes changes that do not interest us, such as sudden increases or decreases in the volume of the music, because the AirPods understand that at that moment we want to listen to or block something from the outside, when this is not the case. It is a very good feature, but sometimes it fails. For this reason, Apple would be working on this new configuration that would allow us to customize the level of noise that this mode cancels or lets through. Apple talked a lot about AirPods during the Worldwide Developers Conference 24 on June 10. Therefore, it would not be surprising if this is launched along with the final version of iOS 18 at the next event in September, where we also expect the new iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro to be announced.
