Concord reveals new details about its game modes and monetization

Firesprite wants to repeat the success of Helldivers 2, having learned from the successes and mistakes of Arrowhead Studios with the most popular multiplayer so far this year. Thus, concord will arrive at a reduced price and will have a simultaneous launch on PlayStation 5 and PC, although before that we will be able to discover it through its exclusive beta for reservations, and later the open beta for everyone. Today we can learn new information about this hero shooter with which PlayStation wants to breathe life into a genre that has been in decline in recent times. What are its credentials?

Since its presentation in the last State of Play in May, the Firesprite team has wanted to emphasize the charisma of its characters, which are irremediably reminiscent of the components of Guardians of the Galaxy. At launch there will be 16 heroes availableeach of them with a background that we will discover, since despite being an eminently multiplayer title, there will be a certain narrative element.

“The first trailer is just a small sample of what we’ve been working on for years and years. “We are excited for the game and the IP, and for the game to be in the hands of the players,” said director Kim Kreines. “I’m excited to see players delve into The Galactic Guide if that’s what they choose, to see our vignettes released on a weekly basis, and how they will fall in love with the depth of the characters. None of that is something you can see in a small trailer” he concludes, in clear reference to the skeptical conclusions of many players after seeing the first Concord preview.

Meanwhile, thanks to a post on the official PlayStation blog, we have been able to discover part of its game modes, with these three being in early access to the beta for players who have reserved it:

  • Trophy hunting: A respawn mode in which you will fight to eliminate members of the rival team and collect their reward cards, which will grant points to your team. The first team to reach the set score before time runs out wins the game.
  • Cargo: A no-respawn mode where teams race to retrieve the little blue guy’s robotic package delivery system, plant it in one of the zones, and defend it from the opposing crew to win.
  • Confrontation: A non-respawning, round-based game mode where teams compete for control of a single capture zone in a central location on the map.

On the other hand, in the open beta for everyone a fourth will be added:

  • Area control: A respawn mode where teams compete to control various capture and control zones spread across the map. Control two or more zones to increase your team’s score and reach the points threshold to win.

How will Concord be monetized?

Kreines also went into detail about how Concord’s business model will work, which, as expected, he confirmed will be solely and exclusively for cosmetic items.

“We’re launching with 16 characters, 12 maps, and 6 modes, all of which are included when you buy the game, and every season we’ll add new maps, modes, and characters,” he begins by explaining. “There are purely cosmetic pieces that you can choose to customize the look of your character, and you can choose to purchase those. They do not affect the gameplay. We believe that the full experience should be available to all players”.

Concord is coming to PlayStation 5 and PC on August 23.
