Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra camera tests in Buenos Aires

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is the South Korean technology company’s most premium mobile phone, and the one with the highest features and capabilities of the latest top-of-the-range Galaxy S24 line.

I tested the cameras of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra starting the last week of June 2024 in Buenos Aires, the city where I live and work.

As I reported in this note, the cameras of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra have some key hardware changes and new software features powered by artificial intelligence, which are especially applied in taking photos and videos.

All three phones in the S24 line (S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra) sport both ultrawide and telephoto sensors, with the higher-end Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra doubling down on the telephoto front. That second telephoto lens includes the only real hardware upgrade in the entire series.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is still a megapixel monster. It carries Samsung’s sharp 200MP Isocell HP2 sensor as its main strength and is grouped into more manageable file sizes by default.

It comes with a 12MP ultra-wide sensor with a 120-degree field of view when you want to zoom out and a 10MP sensor when you want to get closer.

It includes a pair of telephoto sensors, but this time, the long-range option trades focal length for megapixels, switching from 10x to 5x optical zoom and jumping from a 10MP resolution to 50MP.

A watermark against digital fraud

The most significant changes to the Samsung Galaxy S24 cameras occur after pressing the shutter button.

Samsung made its new Galaxy AI models the star of Galaxy Unpacked, the launch event for the new Samsung Galaxy S24 held in January.

The software applies a watermark to the bottom left of all your Generative Editing photos, powered by artificial intelligence.

The company decided to correctly flag the photos as manipulated. The Internet is full of millions of fake photos. There is no need to add more to that account from the comfort of our cell phones.

Below is a list of my own videos recorded with the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and published on YouTube. After the first video, the following ones play automatically.

Below are galleries of photos taken with the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, where the different modes are tested and compared. You can enlarge the photos by clicking on them.

A couple of prior and necessary clarifications: the original resolution of the photos was reduced to facilitate their uploading in this note. No photo has editing or retouching after taking it, except those indicated with artificial intelligence.
