One person was killed and another injured in an explosion while allegedly making improvised bombs in Bhola’s Lalmohan upazila.

The deceased is Monir Boyati, 47. The injured was Firoz Majhi, 35, from the same area.

The incident occurred at Azahar Majhi’s house in Dholigournagar’s Banglabazar area of the upazila at around 2am on Tuesday, Lalmohan police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahabubul Alam said.

Locals said Monir and Firoz were making cocktails. The tin shed from the roof of their home blew up after a cocktail suddenly exploded. Both were admitted to a local hospital. Monir Boyati died on the way to the hospital. Later, Firoz was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for better treatment.

Md Salahuddin, a member of Ward 4 in Dhaligournagar Union Parishad (UP), said Monir Boyati has been known as a bomb maker for quite some time.

Bellal Hossain, Monir’s brother, filed a case with Lalmohan police station against unknown persons as defendants. The case mentions that Monir was killed by a thrown cocktail from outside, as reported by police sources.

The OC said the investigation is ongoing to determine whether the cocktail was thrown from outside rather than being made inside.

A bomb expert team is investigating this matter, and the police have not yet found the reason for the cocktail explosion, police sources said.
