“Mewing”: Claudio Orrego went viral due to a failed gesture when appearing on TV

The governor of the Metropolitan Region, Claudio Orregobecame a trend on social networks for making a failed gesture towards the television cameras during a press point.

It was a TikTok challenge known as “mewing“, which he made while taking stock of the initiative to recover facades and public spaces in the city, one year after its launch.

What is mewing?

The regional governor was captured making two gestures: one putting a finger to his mouth (similar to silence) and another pointing to his jaw. However, it seemed as if he was making a threat.

In reality, what he tried was “mewing” a trend among young people that is popular on TikTok and its origins have to do with a controversial beauty technique created by British orthodontist John Mew and his son Mike.

Although the scientific community does not validate this methodthe Mew believed it could improve the jaw and make the face more attractive.

The main exercise of “mewing” consists of resting the tongue on the palate without touching the teeth and then leaving the lips gently closed. With his popularity on social networks, everything led to a gesture similar to that of Orrego.

On his Instagram account, Claudio Orrego acknowledged that his attempt at “mewing” did not turn out as he expected: “The intention is what counts.”
