Firefighters from more than a dozen departments are battling a fire at a Winters Brothers recycling and waste transfer station in West Babylon.

Companies responding to the fire at 19 Nancy St., reported at 11:54 am, include the East Farmingdale Fire Department and 12 mutual-aid agencies. No injuries were immediately reported.

Will Flower, a spokesperson for Winters Brothers, said the fire spread in a building used to transfer recyclables, including cardboard and paper, and municipal solid waste.

“The fire spread quickly,” Flower said. “All of our operations there were suspended and diverted to other facilities. “All our employees are accounted for.”

Efforts to extinguish the blaze were ongoing just before 2 p.m.
