Six students escape injury in late-night house fire: London Fire officials

A late-night house fire has forced out student tenants in east London near Fanshawe College.

Crews responded to the blaze on Prosperity Court just after 11:30 pm on Monday, according to London Fire Department officials.

Six students have been displaced due to the fire that started on the exterior and extended into the roof, causing “extensive” damage, fire officials said, adding there were no injuries and the smoke alarms were working.

As of Tuesday morning, the investigation into the cause of the blaze was ongoing.

One charged after ATV strikes parked vehicle

A man faces charges after an all-terrain vehicle collided with a parked vehicle on Sunday, Chatham-Kent police say.

Officers were called to a two-vehicle crash on Talbot Street West in Blenheim at about 12:30 pm and arrested a man, police said.

Investigation revealed the man had been placed on a conditional sentence order in November 2023 not to buy, have or consume alcohol or other intoxicating substances, police said.

A Harwich Township man, 41, is charged with four counts of driving while prohibited, two counts of driving while suspended, and single counts of driving without insurance and driving without a license plate, police said. He was held pending a bail hearing.

Damage pegged at $200K in blaze

An early morning fire Monday caused more than $200,000 in damage to a home in the 1400 block of Benjamin Avenue in Windsor.

Windsor Fire and Rescue officials said two people were displaced by the blaze. There were no injuries to the occupants or firefighters.

The origin of the fire was in the basement of the building but the cause remains under investigation, according to officials.
