Among the most notable argumentative battles of the debate was that between the two candidates who lead the polls: Rocío Nahle and José Yunes. The standard bearer of the PAN, PRI and PRD took advantage of the spotlight to bring to light the scandals that have recently surrounded the Morenista: the accusations of possessing luxurious properties that do not correspond to their income.

Rocío Nahle, of course, denied the accusations and also pointed out José Yunes as a close to Javier Duarte, former governor of Veracruz accused of corruption who is currently in prison. In addition, the Morenista accused her rival of receiving illicit money from Duarte to buy her property.

Another confrontation that occupied a lot of time in the debate was the one regarding the origin of Rocío Nahle, who is from Zacatecas but who has forged an intense relationship, both professional and personal, with the state of Veracruz that he intends to govern.

José Yunes took more than a moment to remember the Zacatecan origin of his Morenista rival, arguing that “I did not know the problems of the people of Veracruz”. To defend herself, the Morena, PT and PVEM candidate said things like: “And she talks about houses. I have a patrimonial declaration, and I am a woman with commitments who always comes out to show my face in my family life and in my work, and with all due respect, Mrs. Ibarra, among other things, who is your operator, she has 12 houses nothing more in Coatepec, Xalapa and Boca del Río. And I didn’t want to be miserable like them to take a photograph out of respect, because there are children, but I come to work in Veracruz.”
