In a bizarre incident from southwestern China’s Sichuan province, a mischievous cat, ‘Jingoudiao,’ accidentally turned on an induction cooker in its owner’s kitchen. This set their home on fire, causing damage worth 100,000 yuan (approximately Rs 11 lakh), as reported by the South China Morning Post.

Owner Dandan, who was away from home at that time, received a frantic call from the property management staff alerting her to the fire. Rushing back home, she discovered the entire first floor of her loft engulfed in flames, all thanks to her fiery feline companion.

Upon reaching the loft, the firefighters found that the golden British Shorthair cat was hiding in a cabinet upstairs, covered in ash but not injured.

“It was Jingoudiao’s misadventure in the kitchen that led to the unfortunate blaze,” Dandan revealed, as reported by the South China Morning Post.

Undeterred by the chaos, Dandan light-heartedly changed her Douyin (short-video app in China) account name to “Sichuan’s most badass cat” and showcased Jingoudiao in live-streaming sessions as a form of “compensation.”

The incident quickly gained traction on social media platforms, attracting a whopping 8 million views on Douyin.

In the aftermath, Dandan humorously joked about making Jingoudiao “work to pay off his debt” and even labeled him as an “arsonist.”

On April 13, Dandan posted a letter of apology online, signed with his fingerprint and Jingoudiao’s paw print, as per a report by the South China Morning Post.
