Bargoed have wrapped up the WRU National Championship East title

Bargoed have been crowned champions of the WRU National Championship East following a 35-3 victory over Penalty on Saturday April 27.

The Bulls, who have three games remaining, sit top of the table on 84 points – three ahead of second-place Cardiff Met, who have played all their games.

It is the second trophy the club has won this month, following their WRU Championship Cup win at the Principality Stadium on April 7.

Penallta meanwhile finished the season in 11th place, above only bottom-place Treorchy.

Elsewhere in the league, Cross Keys secured third place after a 24-23 win over Bedwas at Pandy Park, with Bedwas having two games left to play.

New Bridgewho were promoted last year, finished the season in fifth after a resounding 68-19 win over fourth-place Ystrad Rhondda.

League One East

Ynysddu secured third place in the third tier having played their final match of the season in midweek, beating Nelson 54-30 at home.

Over the weekend, Nelson were beaten on the road again, losing 31-14 to Talywain.

With just one game remaining this season, Nelson are guaranteed to finish fourth in the league.

Senghenydd meanwhile they are in ninth place with two games remaining. Their most recent game was a 19-16 loss at home to Dowlais on April 24.

Risca lost 59-0 away to table-toppers Brynmawr over the weekend, and are in a battle to avoid finishing bottom of the table with two games remaining.

League Two East

Blackwood RFC have dropped to fourth place following a 38-12 loss at Newport HSOB on Saturday.

With one game remaining, the club can finish no higher than third this season.

Oakdale meanwhile lost 56-19 at home to Cwmbran in midweek, meaning they are guaranteed a 10th place finish in the 11-team division, with one game remaining.

League Two East Central

Caerphilly ended their league campaign with a 21-19 win away to Cowbridge over the weekend, meaning the Cheesemen finished fourth in the division.

League Three East

Abercarnwho were not in action over the weekend, have just one game left to play but are guaranteed to finish the season in second-place.

Machenhaving already played their final game of the season, finished eighth.

Rhymneyfresh off to 16-13 win away to local rivals Abertysswg Falcons on Saturday, they are guaranteed to finish third with one game left to play.

The Falcons meanwhile are currently sixth, but could finish as high as fourth if they win their one remaining game against champions-elect Blaina.

However, Fleur de Lyswho beat Chepstow 24-14 away in their last outing, are currently fifth – but would finish fourth if they beat Abercarn in their final fixture.

League Four East

Fourth-place Crumlin lost 30-12 away to second-place New Panteg over the weekend – denting their promotion hopes.

In midweek, relegation-threatened Blackwood Stars They were beaten heavily by league leaders Newport Saracens, falling 68-16 away from home.

Elsewhere in the league, Bedwellty They weren’t in action, but sit seventh with four games remaining.

Hafodyrynyswho have three games left, are ninth, eight points adrift of safety.

New Tredegar are second from bottom with six points after 13 games. They have, alongside bottom-place St Julians HSOB, been demoted by the WRU to League Six for next season for not fulfilling fixtures.

League Five East

Pontllanfraith completed their season earlier this month, and finished as League Five East champions.

hollybushcurrently second in the table, have also played all of their games this season.

However, third-place Forgeside are only six points behind Hollybush with two games remaining – and could leapfrog them into second if they get enough points from their next two games – which are both against winless West Mon.

League Six East

Deri crushed Girling 89-8 away from home on Saturday and have secured the division title with two games to spare.

At the other end of the table, bottom-place Cwmcarn United lost 38-5 away to second-place Tredegar Ironsides.

Cwmcarn will need to beat Deri in their final game of the season if they want to avoid finishing bottom of the table.
