The five departing Orediggers closed out their time at Joe Coors, Jr. Softball Field with a W—or, really, four of them.
Over April 25-26, the Colorado School of Mines softball team celebrated Senior Day by racking up four wins against Adams State. The Orediggers, who closed out the regular season 27-21 overall and 23-17 in conference play, are now preparing for the May 2-4 RMAC tournament.
On April 25, senior Sadriena Rodriguez pitched a no-hitter across the first game’s six innings. It was the first of her career, and the first by a Mines pitcher since 2011. The Orediggers won the first game 8-0.
Then, fellow senior Kayleigh Krueger helped Mines win the second game 9-0 in five innings by hitting a three-run homer over center field fence. By the end of the series, Krueger was tied for eighth place on Mines’ career RBI records with 117.
The following day, the Orediggers hosted their official Senior Day ceremony and racked up their final two wins of the regular season.
Rodriguez opened the day with a scoreless first inning, while senior Sara Larson batted a teammate in thanks to an error at shortstop. Senior Trystin Oshiro-Sano made it 2-0, thanks to teammate Kendall Aragon’s sacrifice fly to left field. Mines later racked up five more runs to win the game 7-2.
In the series’ final game, the Orediggers took a commanding 6-0 lead in the first inning. Senior Sidney Wilson and Larson’s back-to-back singles scored the first two, and then Krueger hit a sacrifice fly to center field to make it 3-0.
Mines didn’t allow any runs throughout the game while scoring two more in the fifth and final inning to win 8-0. The Orediggers ended their 2024 season 15-1 at home, including three sweeps for the first time since the 2013 season.
The team will play in the RMAC tournament May 2-4 in Grand Junction.
The No. 4-seeded Orediggers will face off against the No. 5-seeded Regis Rangers at 10 am May 2. As it is a double-elimination tournament, the Orediggers will play again May 3 regardless of the outcome.
