This May 1st will not be the only holiday you will have this month. On Tuesday, May 21, the Day of Naval Glories is commemorated.
Labor Day: Will commerce work this May 1?
He Labor Daylike the aforementioned dates, are “mandatory and inalienable holidays for all business employees,” as established in article 2 of Law 19,973.
With this, it follows that for Labor Day, commerce (supermarkets and malls) will be closed.
However, the Labor Directorate establishes exceptions and allows the operation of the following services. Labor Day 2024: check which businesses will operate on May 1:
- Clubs.
- Restaurants.
- Entertainment establishments: Cinemas, live shows, nightclubs, pubs, cabarets, commercial premises at public civil airfields and airports, gaming casinos and other legally authorized gaming venues.
- Fuel outlets and associated stores.
- Emergency pharmacies and pharmacies that must fulfill shifts set by the health authority.
Likewise, the rule establishes that there is no legal impediment for a business to open on a non-waivable holiday, as long as the attention it provides is provided directly or personally by its owner.
An extra fact is that the only mandatory and inalienable holidays are the days January 1st for New Years, May 1st, September 18th and 19th for National Holidays and December 25, for Christmas.
