ROCKTON — Belvidere North soccer picked up a major NIC-10 win, winning 3-1 over Hononegah on Thursday.
The Blue Thunder controlled possession and had most of the scoring chances throughout the game. Through most of the first half, Hononegah’s keeper, Keesha Johnson-Lamm denied several scoring chances, but with a few minutes left, Cortlyn Hefty got a great pass on a run up the middle and buried the ball in the top of the net.
Belvidere North struck again early in the second half when a deflected shot attempted rolled to a waiting Haylee Gallas who saw her first shot blocked, but her quick rebound and second shot found the back of the net.
Hononegah would go on to score in the second half, but Belvidere North put together a strong 3-1 win to give them sole possession of second place in the conference standings as everyone is still chasing Boylan for the top spot.
