SARANAC — Saranac bounced back from a setback to Beekmantown the day before with a 6-2 victory over the Eagles on Friday in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference baseball.

Zack Lucia accounted for four of the Spartans’ eight hits and Seth Petrashune went the distance in picking up the pitching win.

“We did a much better job defensively in this game,” Saranac coach Robby Knowles said. “Our book had us with five errors on Thursday and that contributed to the lop-sided result.

“Seth didn’t have his best curveball working today, but he did a great job spotting his pitches to produce soft contact.

“Zack had a good day at the plate and (Brody) Macomber added two RBI in the middle of our line-up.”

The Spartans, leading by a 3-2 score, got some breathing room with two runs at the bottom of the fifth.

“We took advantage of an infield error in the fifth inning that led to two runs and allowed us to get some separation,” Knowles said.

“Parker Broughton’s double was one of the four Beekmantown hits.

PERU 11

PERU — It was a high scoring, back-and-forth contest that felt like it would never end. The Nighthawks tackled five at the bottom of the seventh but the deficit was too much.

Plattsburgh would get revenge, defeating Peru, 19-11 in a CVAC matchup with the lead on Division I on the line. The Nighthawks had just defeated the Hornets, two days prior in a 5-4 extra inning thriller.

It wasn’t short of power and extra base hits. Peru’s Landen Duprey and Plattsburgh’s Kai Abernathy hit two and one home run, respectively.

PHS’ Nate Baker recorded two triples as teammates Braeden Calkins and Warren Miller recorded doubles.

Both Baker and Duprey led their respective teams with four hits each.

COOPERSTOWN — The game’s only run was scored in the fifth inning when Rowan Bechtold walked, stole second and scored on Collin Lauzon’s base hit.

The non-league game was played at Doubleday Field.

Nathan LaCourse and Jackson Dorsett, who picked up the win in relief, combined for a three-hitter. Lauzon walked just one in four innings and Dorsett didn’t walk anyone over the final three.

“Both teams played great defense as there were only three walks the entire game, along with only three strikeouts by each side,” Ticonderoga coach Dan Dorsett said.

Carter Perron led the Sentinels offensively with two hits, with Dorsett, LaCourse and Dom Crossman each getting a hit.

RICHFORD, Vt. 3

CHAMPLAIN — Jacob Perkins pitched and hit the Cougars to a non-league win over the Vermont opponent.

Perkins tossed four innings in relief to get the win as he allowed one hit and struck out eight. He also had two singles and two RBI at the plate.

Owen Ebersol added two singles and Garrett Pilon a double for NCCS.

Starting pitcher Jimmy Wells allowed one hit and fanned four over the first three innings.

Mike Cunningham allowed seven hits in going the distance for the setback. Aiden Wood drove in two runs for the Falcons.

“Thank you to the Richford Falcons for coming over the bridge for the game,” NCCS coach Jeff Norton said. “It was a competitive game against a scrappy and disciplined team.

“We had to once again battle through adversity and some mental miscues early in the game, but we found a way to get the result we needed.

“I thought our pitchers were very effective today and we had a few quality at-bats throughout the line-up in key situations.”
