During the morning conference which was led from the Treasury Room of the National Palace this Monday, May 6, 2024, by Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) pointed to the gas station chain Oxxo Gas for the High costs to whom it offers its fuel. His argument was supported by the figures presented by the head of Profeco.
In the section known as “Who is who in fuel prices?”, the head of the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco), David Aguilar Romero pointed out to the company Oxxo Gas to offer two types of fuel at high cost in the San Pedro Garza García regionNew Lion.
“We now have that in the case of regular gasoline, once again we have Oxxo Gas, in San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo León (…) with five pesos with 51 cents profit indicatormuch higher than other cases with quite high prices,” he noted in the case of regular gasoline.
The same situation prevailed in the case of the premium gasoline, that is, the one with the highest octane. As in the first area, the company Oxxo Gas appeared in the region of San nicolas de los herosNuevo León, for offering fuel at a high price.
“Once again we have Oxxo Gasthere in San Nicolás de los Garza, Nuevo León, also there (…) a profit indicator of four pesos with 50 cents“, he said in reference to the figures provided by the Ministry of Energy.
After the intervention of Aguilar Romero, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) intervened to regret that the company in said region of the country registers profits for earning five pesos per liter “despite the subsidy.”
“You have to talk to the owners of Oxxo, ask them to see this. And there should be no sanctions, nor are we going to regulate prices, or anything like that, but don’t let them go too far. So, talk to them to ask them; because service providers have profits, but…”, explained López Obrador.
As stated on the company’s official website Oxxo Gas, currently operate in 17 entities in the Republic. In each of the states the price varies. However, federal authorities indicated that the cost in the San Nicolás de los Garza region generates more profit for the company.
In the case of the regular gasolineaccording to the figures presented by the head of Profeco, the average price is MXN 26.83 cents for each literwhich represents the highest profit indicator recorded, that is, MXN 5.51 cents.
On the other hand, the premium gasoline had a average cost per liter of MXN 27 and 98 cents. In this case, the profit indicator was MXN 4.50 cents, which also represented the highest figure at the national level.
Another of the data presented by the head of Profeco in the morning press conference consisted of the profit indicators by brand, where it was announced which franchises offer fuel at a higher or lower cost nationwide.
In the period from April 22 to 28, 2024, companies Bow, Chevron and Redco were the brands that offered the most expensive fuel in the country. By contrast, Orsan, G500 and Total were classified as the “consumer allies” for having sold to lower cost their products.
