Understanding that there is the possibility of training as a specialist in different areas of kinesiology was the central focus of the seminar with which the course commemorated the Kinesiologist’s Dayan appointment that was complemented by the educational, prevention and health promotion work carried out by students in Plaza Victoria, in Valparaíso.

Pamela Marcone Dapelo, race director, emphasized the importance for students of incorporating the idea that, as kinesiologists, it is possible for them to deepen theoretical-practical knowledge in various areas of interest, considering as part of the professional ethical duty to provide answers to the needs of the population.

“The academy plays a fundamental role, regarding what we can build at the University, both from the point of view of the development of the profession, as well as in the innovation processes to be able to generate the transfer to the needs that we have locally, since be it in the Valparaíso Region, as well as at the country level,” said the director.

Field activity

In the afternoon, more than 40 students of the course carried out different field work activities in Plaza Victoria in Valparaíso, through information modules.

The objective of this activity was for academics of the career, together with third and fourth year students and interns of the Teaching Assistance Laboratory, to develop health promotion, prevention and education, both in the respiratory area and in the elderly.

In this last aspect, we sought to promote practical activities of cognitive stimulation, motor coordination, active mobility through motor execution circuits, among other aspects, all of which was very well received by the people who came to share and receive the information.

The voice of the students

Olga Yáñez Vega, 4th year:
“I decided to study Kinesiology, mainly, because it can be practiced in several areas. Particularly, I really like the therapeutic options that occur in water (swimming), neurorehabilitation (which is also for children), and I also love the musculoskeletal area, since my family has different pathologies. So, as a child I was interested, because I see my mother who is in therapy and I realize how much she helps in rehabilitation.”

Valeska Rojas Rojas, 4th year:
“I remember that, from a very young age, I was always in contact with kinesiologists. So, the professionals motivated me to study this career. I want to work on this, all my life, because it is very inspiring to see how people recover, thanks to small or large efforts, that they make themselves, with the guidance of the professional. The area I like the most is respiratory, without a doubt.”

Boris Mora Hernández, 4th year:
“Kinesiology is a very interesting, calm and beautiful career. You learn a lot about how movement serves the human body. Furthermore, I feel that, in the work area, it is one of the calmest. In addition, seeing the patient’s evolution is also very satisfactory.”
