If there is an actor of the new generation, given that he is around 40 years old, who knows how to put his body to new challenges without fear and always jumping into the void without a net, that is the Romanian-American Sebastian Stan, who is now transformed into Donald Trump in the biopic The Apprentice (The Apprentice), which explores and addresses the journey of the American magnate before his foray into politics, and which he will meet in a few days at the Cannes Festival and then disembark on a platform.
The stage recorded in the film focuses on the 70s and 80s and the subsequent times in which Trump participated in the reality television show of the same name as the film where a group of businessmen competed for a contract to run one of their companies.
This new challenge for the actor came after putting the body on real characters like Tomy Lee in the series Pam and Tommy (2022) about the scandal over the spread of the musician’s sex tape with his partner Pamela Anderson, where daring nudes were encouraged, and previously, and under the direction of Craig Gillespie, the violent ex-husband Jeff Gillooly, of the skater Tonya Harding, played by Margot Robbie in I, Tonya 2017, which earned him an Oscar nomination.
After this tour, in recent days the first official image of the film was released, where Stan is seen characterized as a young Trump, aboard his vehicle and accompanied by Jeremy Strong, who comes from the success of the series Successionand who this time plays the conservative lawyer and political “fixer” Roy Cohn.
As anticipated, the film is told through the pact that Trump establishes with Cohn and that leads him on his path to power, the narrative structure of the film decided by the Iranian director Ali Abbasi (Border, Holy Spider), in charge of filming this story.
The Apprentice completes its cast with the performance of Maria Bakalova (Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, Death, death, death), as Ivana Trump, the first wife of the magnate and politician who is again in the race to return to the White House, along with Martin Donovan (Tenet, Big Little Lies) like his father, Fred Trump Sr.
