LUCAN – A 25-year-old man was killed by falling materials while working on a home in this community north of London last week.

The falling materials injured the man, who later died, a spokesperson for Ontario’s Labor Ministry said Tuesday. The ministry assigned an inspector to the case and declined to provide further details, spokesperson Anuradha Dhar said.

Middlesex OPP reported a man suffered critical injuries in a construction mishap at a Lucan Biddulph house about 10:45 am April 29. Neither police nor provincial officials released the man’s name, but an obituary identifies him as Collin Mastorakos.

Mastorakos, who died one day after the incident, is remembered as a family-oriented adventurer whose love of travel and photography took him around the globe, according to his obituary.

“From the rugged landscapes of Churchill, Man., where he embarked on a polar bear trek, to the ancient ruins of Greece and the majestic wonders of the Great Wall and Terracotta Warriors of China, Collin embraced every opportunity to immerse himself in new cultures and experiences,” the obituary states.

But it was family that meant the most to Mastorakos, according to the obituary, which noted he worked with his brother, Dylan, in the construction industry.

Property records show Mastorakos’s brother and sister-in-law own the home where the incident happened. The couple bought the single-storey house in 2021.

Two work trucks were parked outside the modern home located on a rural road Monday.

Family and friends weren’t commenting.

Mastorakos’s donated organs went to six people. A celebration of life was set to take place Tuesday from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Lucan Biddulph Community Memorial Center and a funeral was scheduled for Wednesday.
