‘Game of Thrones’ actor Ian Gelder dies

Actor Ian Gelder, known for playing Kevan Lannister in the well-known HBO series ‘Game of Thrones’, has died at the age of 74. In less than six months, bile duct cancer has ended her life, as her husband, also actor Ben Daniels, has announced on social media.

“With enormous sadness and a heart broken into a million pieces, I leave this post to announce the passing of my dear husband and life partner, Ian Gelder. He was diagnosed with cancer in December and he passed away yesterday. I left everything to be their caregiver, but none of us had any idea that everything would happen so quickly,” he began on his Instagram account.

“If we weren’t together, we talked every day. He was the kindest, most generous, spirited and loving human being. He was a wonderful actor and everyone who worked with him was moved by his heart and his light. I honestly don’t know what I’ll do without him by my side. He faced his terrible illness so bravely, without self-pity. Ever. He was extraordinary and will be greatly missed. This photo was taken on Christmas after I took him out of the hospital and, even though he had gone through the worst three weeks there, you can still see his joy and love shining through. May you rest my sweet Chianni,” she concluded.

Although he spent most of his professional career behind the scenes, his best-known roles have been on the small screen. Especially significant was her work on ‘Game of Thrones’, where she gave life to Kevan Lannister. Her niece, Cersei asked him to be Hand of the King at one point in the series, but he rejected it due to having doubts about his leadership. For the collective imagination, the scene in which she poured a glass of wine in his face will remain. In addition, he also appeared in ‘Doctor Who’, ‘Torchwood’, ‘Snatch’ and ‘The Bill’.
