PETALING JAYA: The e-hailing driver who was injured when a tree fell along Jalan Sultan Ismail can claim temporary disability benefits, says the Social Security Organization (Socso).
In a statement on Thursday (May 9), Socso said that Human Resources Minister Steven Sim had stated that the 26-year old e-hailing driver Abdul Hayyi Al Hakimi Nazli is a Socso contributor and is eligible to claim his benefits.
“Abdul Hayyi was injured on the head, chest and arms and received treatment at the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital,” Sim said.
He added that Abdul Hayyi is a newlywed and is eligible for temporary disability benefits under the Social Security for Self-Employed Workers Scheme which pays RM41.33 per day.
“Abdul Hayyi is also eligible to apply for medical and rehabilitation treatment benefits, as well as permanent disability benefits should he be disabled permanently,” Sim said.
Sim stated this when he visited the home of Abdul Hayyi to send Socso contributions on Wednesday (May 8).
Also present were Federal Territory Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa, Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Fadlun Mak Ujud and Socso chief executive officer Datuk Seri Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed.
Sim also said that he will be visiting the family of the fatal victim of the same incident Md Rizal Atan.
On May 7, at 2.19pm, a tree that was over 50-years-old fell on Jalan Sultan Ismail, killing one man and injuring two others, also damaging 17 vehicles and disrupting monorail services.
