San Martín: explosion and fire due to a gas leak, in Villa Ballester – MI PERIÓDICO

VILLA BALLESTER, SAN MARTÍN, BUENOS AIRES, MAY 23, 2024 (MI PERIÓDICO).- It happened this afternoon, around 1:00 p.m., at the intersection of Reconquista and Professor Agüer streets, in the town of Villa Ballester, in the municipality of Gral. San Martín, when a machine that was carrying out patching tasks broke a gas master pipe which in turn produced a leak, and then an implosion and fire in one of the apartments on the first floor of a building, which is located at that intersection, affecting six others.

Two people were injured after jumping into the void from the first floor of the building, in the middle of a nervous breakdown. They were transferred by SEM ambulances to a private clinic and to the Thompson Hospital in San Martín.

The tests ordered by the prosecutor involved in the case were suspended until tomorrow at the request of the company Naturgy, due to the lack of electricity supply in the affected building that was evacuated.

Due to issues that are the subject of investigation on this occasion, personnel from the Natrugy company took about four hours to cut off the gas supply.

At least six fire crews worked at the scene to contain the flames.

The person in charge of the work was charged by the Functional Instruction Unit 4 with the crime of “wrongful injuries.”
