Within the framework of the signing of the collective protection promoted by Governor Gustavo Melella against the excessive increases in gas rates, authorities from the chambers of commerce of Río Grande and Ushuaia supported the measure and reaffirmed the need to reverse the adjustments.

José Luis Iglesias, President of the Río Grande Chamber of Commerce, said in this regard that “I feel proud to support a claim that we see as fair.”

“These increases are disproportionate, unforeseen. If we don’t have gas we don’t have heat and it becomes impossible to live and work. It seems absurd to us that we have to pay such bills for a resource that we genuinely generate in our province,” he added.

Finally, Iglesias stated that “I value and support this measure and I thank the Governor and all sectors of society that promote it.”

For her part, Claudia Fernández, President of the Ushuaia Chamber of Commerce, expressed that “the best thing we can say today despite the situation we are in is that we are all together. I think that something that stands out for us Fuegians is that every time we have to defend a little piece of ourselves, something that we truly believe is ours, we don’t stop joining in.”

“We are here to say this, not this way. The businesses in our province and those throughout the country have been experiencing 19 months of declining sales. It is impossible to work without predictability, without having something organized. That is why we ask that they be predictable, we cannot receive an invoice one day and a thousand percent more the next day,” he stressed.

Fernández also assured that “our workers in Tierra del Fuego are not a number, they are the ones who get up every morning to build the province. It filled me with pride to see all the employees in the business come to sign, because not only were our businessmen there, each of us Fuegians were determined to fight the battle together.”

“Thank you Governor for uniting us all and for showing that Tierra del Fuego is capable, that we have the way to produce, but they have to let us do it and these increases do not allow us to continue. Thank you to everyone who joined this claim for demonstrating that we can build a large and prosperous province,” he concluded.
