The Huarmis non-profit foundation has launched a national call for the virtual program Huarmis Spaceaimed at closing gaps in education and strengthening skills STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) in girls, boys and adolescents in vulnerable situations in Peru.

The program includes training and a trip to the POT and disney in the U.S. The publication of the beneficiaries will be made on Friday, July 19, 2024.

To apply, participants must be between 11 and 16 years old, have authorization from their parents or guardians, reside in Peru, demonstrate good academic performance and belong to vulnerable populations. Availability of time for classes and activities is also required, as well as completing the application form in a transparent and truthful manner, as announced by the Huarmis Foundation.

In the next phase, selection interviews will be carried out via Zoom and 40 students will be chosen to participate in the virtual program Huarmis Space. The initiative includes virtual classes, practical workshops and mentoring STEM. Interviews and selections will be an essential process to ensure that applicants meet the requirements and objectives of the educational project.

Virtual classes will begin on August 8 and will be taught by experts in areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics from around the world. Topics will range from astronomyprogramming, robotics for social impact to creativity and innovation and aerospace engineering skills.

The program will culminate with a Project STEM Integrator who will put the acquired knowledge into practice. The practical workshops will allow beneficiaries to apply what they learned in the virtual classes as a team, under the guidance of mentors who will support their personal and professional development.

With this approach, the aim is to offer comprehensive training that benefits both the short and long term, according to the organizers.

This initiative of the Huarmis Foundation seeks to offer an unprecedented opportunity to young people in vulnerable situations, in order to provide access to quality education and unique learning experiences in reference centers such as the POT and disney.

Six students—three girls and three boys or teenagers—will be selected to travel to the Kennedy Space Center of the POT and to the amusement park Mundo de Walt Disneyin Florida, United Statesnext November, after standing out for his academic performance.

The trip, which will last five days, will provide students with an immersive experience in the field of science and technology. Participants will be able to interact with an astronaut, watch a movie in IMAX 3D format, and tour emblematic places such as the Rocket Gardenthe Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) and the ferry space atlantisamong other points of interest.

The goals of the trip include motivating students to pursue careers in the STEM areas and foster their interest in aeronautical, aerospace, sound and software engineering. According to sources, the aim is also to inspire them to become agents of change in their communities.

Regarding the visit to Mundo de Walt Disney, the goal is to expose students to advanced technology and stimulate their creativity and innovative thinking. In addition, it is expected to promote teamwork and problem-solving skills through various activities in the amusement park.

The students will be accompanied by the volunteer team of Huarmis, who will be in charge of guaranteeing your well-being and providing academic and emotional support. Their interaction with professionals from both the Kennedy Space Center and Walt Disney World will also be facilitated, as well as the documentation of the students’ experiences and learning.
