Cairo, May 25 (EFE).- At least one person died this Saturday in an explosion caused by a car bomb in the wealthy neighborhood of Mezzeh, in the west of Damascus, reported the official Syrian news agency SANA and the NGO Observatory. Syrian Human Rights.

The victim, who was not identified, died when an explosive device placed in his car exploded, which was on the capital’s Talat Al Iskan street, according to a source from the Damascus Police Command cited by SANA on condition of anonymity. .

For its part, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights added that the explosion also burned three other cars that were parked at the site, without providing more details about the victim or the possible perpetrator of this action.

However, he recalled that on April 13, an explosive device “placed by unknown men” in a Jeep vehicle in Mezzeh caused material damage near a restaurant, located just two kilometers from the Iranian embassy in Damascus.

Mezzeh is one of the most affluent districts of the capital and is home to several embassies and homes of wealthy families, while it is also known for being a fortified district where leaders of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard often reside.

Precisely, this neighborhood was where the bombing attributed to Israel took place that on April 1 destroyed the Iranian consulate in Syria and killed seven members of the Revolutionary Guard, including three generals.

That action was responded to two weeks later with the launch of more than 300 missiles and drones by Iran against the Jewish State, an attack that was reported in advance and that hardly caused any damage.

Israeli bombings in Syria are usually directed against areas where the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah, an ally of the Syrian Government, is present, and which since October 8 has been engaged in intense cross-attacks with Israel from southern Lebanon.

However, Israel has previously attacked targets in the Arab nation, often belonging to Iranian or Lebanese militias allied with Damascus, which it considers a threat to its security. EFE
