The National Electoral Institute (INE) reports that very early today, a large number of Mexican men and women residing abroad have gathered at the Voting Receiving Modules (MRV) installed in some cities in Europe, such as Madrid, Spain, and Paris, France, as well as in 20 cities in the United States and in Montreal, Canada, to exercise their right to vote on this Election Day.

In some cases, such as Madrid, California, Chicago and Phoenix, the large influx of people wishing to vote at the consular headquarters has exceeded expectations.

In this regard, in accordance with the In-Person Voting Model approved for the development of Election Day abroad, in each of the 23 consular offices, the INE has MRV in which the devices for casting the vote are operating. , in order to serve the people registered on the Nominal List of the Abroad Electorate (LNEE) and the 1,500 who will be able to vote without prior registration.

Therefore, those who registered during the period from September 1, 2023 to February 25, 2024, can exercise their vote without setbacks.

The limit referred to in each consular headquarters is determined in the ““Guidelines for the formation of the Nominal List of Electorates Abroad for the Federal and Local Electoral Processes 2023-2024”approved by the General Council.

In the agreement of the guidelines, it was established that the necessary arrangements would be made so that, in each of the headquarters abroad, up to a maximum of one thousand five hundred voters who had not requested to be registered in the vote could vote in person. LNEE, by virtue of various conditions and technical, operational and infrastructure capacities of the consular headquarters.

The INE, as responsible for the organization of the 2023-2024 Federal Electoral Process, is ready to assist citizens residing abroad who wish to exercise their right to vote in one of the 23 consular offices, in order to guide them and have all the information necessary to exercise their vote. This support is provided by the INE officials who are present at the aforementioned MRVs.

However, this circumstance will be valued for the following exercises of voting from abroad, with the purpose that, based on a greater analysis of the conditions and capacities of the consular headquarters, an effort will be made to enhance the human right to vote.
