This Sunday June 2, the federal elections are held in Mexico, organized by the Federal Electoral Institute (INE). In it, several positions are renewed. At the federal level, these are the ones that will be renewed:

Presidency of Mexico: the new president elected for a period of six years, without the possibility of re-election, to begin his term on October 1, 2024. There are three candidates competing for said place: Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, Xóchitl Gálvez Ruiz and Jorge Álvarez Máynez.

128 senatorial offices: They are the members of the upper house of the Congress of the Union. Two simple majority senators and one first minority senator for each of the 32 federal entities of Mexico. And 32 senatories of proportional representation. Elected for a period of six years with the possibility of a single consecutive re-election to begin his term on August 1, 2024.

500 federal councils: members of the lower house of the Congress of the Union, 300 elected by simple majority and 200 through the principle of proportional representation from five regional lists per party to begin their mandate on August 1, 2024.

All of them elected for a period of three years with the possibility of re-election for up to three additional consecutive periods. No party can have more than 300 deputies in the lower house.

It should be noted that this will be the first time that the elections to state and federal level will be carried out simultaneously in the 32 entities in the country. Nine governorships will also be renewed, among other positions. In total, they will be renewed 20,708 positions at both the federal and local levels.
