SAN DIEGO –

Mexican forward Hirving “Chucky” Lozano signed a four-year contract on Thursday with San Diego FC, a team that will debut in MLS next season.

Lozano, 28, will come to American soccer from PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands, where he spent his last season and where he will remain for the remainder of 2024.

San Diego FC said that the player’s transfer will take place as of January 1, 2025.

The Mexican star will be presented next Thursday at the Snapdragon stadium.

“Signing a player of international stature like “Chuky” Lozano is the greatest possible support for our project in San Diego,” said team owner Mohamed Mansour. “His journey from Pachuca to the world stage resonated and we hope he can inspire and motivate the next generation of talent in San Diego.”

Lozano debuted with Pachuca where he was league champion in the Clausura 2026 and also won the CONCACAF Champions League in 2016-17. He then emigrated to Europe with PSV, where he achieved two league titles, one in his first year in 2017-18 and the other in the recently concluded season.

Between his two stages in Holland, Lozano also played for Napoli in Italy and became Serie A champion in the 2022-23 season.

In total, Lozano has played 267 games in Europe in which he has scored 76 goals with 43 assists in all competitions.

With the Mexican team he has made 70 appearances in which he has scored 18 goals and was a World Cup player in Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022.

“It is an honor to arrive in San Diego as the first designated player,” Lozano said. “It is exciting to be part of the history of a club that will compete for championships in the MLS. In every country I have played in I try to leave a mark.”

Lozano will be one of the notable absences in the Mexican team that is preparing to compete in the Copa América in the United States that starts in a couple of weeks.
