He provincial deputy Santiago Vargas was elected to chair the Energy Commission of the Chamber of Deputies and investment in gas and oil was one of the first topics addressed in the meeting with the Minister of Production of Salta; Martin De los Ríos. “Most of the company projects in the area do not exceed 10 years,” Vargas remarked.
Vargas was elected president of the Energy Commission of the Chamber of Deputiesan area that had not been operating since 2023 and that at the beginning of its work addressed the issue of oil exploitation. “In the region there are 3 wells that are being drilled in Campo Durán by the company Tecpetrol. “In the north we have the Los Monos basin (Acambuco)which is the equivalent of Vaca Muerta but it is not being exploited and would be enough to supply the entire province (…) the difference is that to drill here you have to work at 4,500 meters and with export plans that do not exceed 10 years (…) drilling is done in Vaca Muerta to 2,036 meters to reach the resources and the investment is ten times less if compared to the north and that is one of the factors that influence companies choosing the south”he emphasized.
In addition to Tecpetrolthey also operate in the area Panamerican Energy and High Luckfirms that apart from Campo Durán also carry out explorations in the Río Pescado area looking for new sources of gas and oil. “It has been a big mistake for the president to paralyze the work of the Néstor Kirchner Gasduct, for an audit of 50 million dollars now, this month, he must pay an additional 500 million dollars to face the increased demand for gas (…) in the commission we not only talk about energy and if we look at gas, resuming work on the gas pipeline, Salta will have that resource in 2025 (…) and another thing is Refinor, at permanent risk of closing and now, faced with the possibility of reducing its workforce because it would no longer be dedicated to distilling” .
