There will be five athletes and two coaches, who will join a national delegation. This Thursday, in the continuity of their preparation for the World Cup event, they visited the Sports Secretariat, where they confirmed that they will have the support of the Province.

Karate players and coaches from San Luis will represent the province and the country wearing the Argentine National Team shirt at the 12th World Karate Championship, which will take place from July 11 to 14 in the Mexican city of Monterrey. The contest, organized and supervised by the World Union Karate Federation (WUKF), will be coordinated by the Mexican Karate Federation and will have the participation of more than 2,000 competitors from various countries around the world.

Headed by the director of the Kyudokan San Luis and Region school, Juan Carlos Frank, those selected from San Luis are seven: Daniel Vetrano, Marcio Puebla, Juan Altaba, Mariana Ferramola, Andrés Lucero, Luis Sánchez and Álvaro Mena, although the latter two will not be able to travel to Mexico. In addition, coaches Marcos Puebla and Silvio Altaba are part of the Puntano team.

The people from San Luis are part of the Argentine National Team, which is made up of 40 athletes from all over the country and is led by the sensei from Catamarca, Damián Bidabhjede, to compete in the two planned specialties: kata (form) and kumite (combat).

The Government of San Luis, through the Sports Secretariat, will accompany local athletes and coaches, assuming part of the cost of the transfers. The Argentine Karate Federation (FAK) will take care of the registration fees and other expenses required by the participation of the Argentine athletes.

“I want to thank the Government for the valuable and unconditional support they have given us for this trip, as well as the large number of people who collaborated with us by acquiring a national circulation contribution voucher to be able to cover the expenses required,” said Frank.

Vetrano, one of the karatekas, pointed out that “this participation is the result of work carried out for two years: traveling, training and competing in championships throughout the country to rank ourselves and achieve classification,” while adding: “Let’s go with very good expectations and excited to win several medals. We know that we have a very good level and we are going to show it.”
