San José de los Arroyos. Omar Jara. Regional Agency.

A motorist ran over a roundabout located on Route PY-02 at the east exit of the district of San José de los Arroyos, department of Caaguazú. After the incident, the man had striking reactions, including an alleged attempt to bribe the police officers involved and a complaint against the doctor on duty who treated them at a healthcare center for supposedly having stolen his cell phone.

According to the data, the accident occurred early this Thursday at km 104 of the newly duplicated international highway. In that place is one of the roundabouts that this district has and that most believe would have been poorly designed (it would have been smaller than necessary) as is the case with all the roundabouts that are located on the expanded road infrastructure.

However, there were other factors that contributed to the accident occurring, such as the alleged state of intoxication of the driver of the vehicle.

The accident involved a Toyota Ist brand car that was driven by Juan Carlos González, 28, and who had Catalino Brítez as his companion, both from Coronel Oviedo, according to data provided by the 10th Police Station of San José. According to this data, the driver, instead of going around the roundabout, straightened the road.

Officer María Cuellar, head of the aforementioned police headquarters, indicated that the vehicle tried to bypass the roundabout. There was a strong impact and the two occupants suffered injuries while the vehicle was left with significant material damage.

According to the same source, during the relevant procedure the two men tried to bribe both the National Police and the Highway Patrol. Staff from the latter institution performed the alcohol test on them, which was positive in both cases. They were referred to the local health center, where they were given first aid.

After the medical attention they received, they reported to the police that the doctor on duty had allegedly stolen their cell phone. Both were detained at the San Jose police station and will be placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry.
