The Treasurer of the Mariano Moreno Library, Fernando Recabal, stressed that the institution currently does not have state subsidies, beyond the fact that the librarians’ salaries are paid by the provincial government, which is why facing the tax increase endangers the continuity of activities. It is worth noting that the space was closed for five years, and just over 2 years ago it reopened its doors with the efforts of the workers.

“At this moment we have received the bill for the gas service and we are having difficulty making the payment, since in the second to last gas bill we received 18,000 pesos and at this moment Camuzzi sent us the last bill which has almost 148,000 pesos” , explained the reference, and added that “the difference is huge.”

The peculiarity of the library is that it has a board of directors that has not yet been approved, but is already in operation, which is why it is not subsidized by the Nation, Provincial or Municipality. “It does not receive subsidies, so all the expenses, all the payments that have to be made, are made at will, by the library staff,” Recabal mentioned, and added that “because of this we were talking and looking for a way to face expenses, and we turned to one of the librarians who, together with the family, are going to have a Milanese sandwich sale for this weekend.”

In this context, the library treasurer Mariano Moreno highlighted that requests are being received by telephone for those who want to collaborate: “We are going to be very grateful because we don’t really know how to keep the library open. We are trying to ensure that the library does not close, there are a series of educational programs that are implemented within the library, such as “I learn my neighborhood” and other programs, but we have no way of meeting the expenses, and that is why we are seeking the collaboration of people”.

“Other types of sales have been made, but for expenses such as purchasing books and issues like that, but mostly the expenses are met by the library staff with what is called the vaquita, let’s say, which is what the staff collects when they collect their duties.” and faces expenses,” Recabal explained.

Finally, he reported that those who want to collaborate with the purchase of a Milanese sandwich can contact the library director, Alejandro Arce, via WhatsApp, at number 2964-575694. The sandwich will be complete, about 22 centimeters and will have a value of 7,000 pesos.
