250 cyclists will pedal this Saturday, June 8, along the roads of the north of La Palma, at La Tea Granfondo. San Andrés y Sauces will be the host municipality, which will host the start and finish of the two modalities, the queen test of the Tea Granfondo, with 134 kilometers and the TEA Mediofondo, with 68 kilometers, the organization reports.

In addition to the cycling enthusiasts on La Palma – and there are more every day – there will be participants from the rest of the Canary Islands, as well as 12 nationalities, who will also tour the most emblematic places in the municipalities of Barlovento, Garafía and Fat tip.

The RTA, in addition to sport, is gastronomy, local consumption, culture and ethnography. Values with which San Andrés y Sauces is perfectly aligned, located between Barlovento and Puntallana with the La Herradura and La Galga ravines as a limit. Below the dynamic town of Los Sauces, with its Montserrat church, lies the picturesque Villa de San Andrés, next to the coast. The old settlement of San Andrés received, a few years after the conquest, city rights, and was for many years the administrative center of the northeast, until Los Sauces took its place. The square, with its church, which was established in 1515 in honor of San Andrés Apóstol, the harmony of the landscape and its proximity to the sea make it one of the most magical places on La Palma.

San Andrés y Sauces is also known as the “municipality of water”, a precious asset that not only influences the greenness of its landscapes but, together with the deep cuts of the ravines, has given rise to the appearance of the springs of Marcos and Cordero, as well as countless sources and mines. Over the years, its fertile lands have led to the cultivation of vines, potatoes, tomatoes, sugar cane, yams, avocados, as well as some vegetables and bananas. In San Andrés y Sauces there is also a wide catalog of artisan trades, highlighting traditional pottery, embroidery, the making of traditional costumes, wool spinners and preparers, wicker basket weaving, wood workers, nativity scenes and fabric decorators. glass.

From 7Raid, organizer of the RTA, the involvement and support of the San Andrés y Sauces City Council stands out, hosting not only the departure and arrival of all modalities, but also the presentation this Friday, June 7, of the test. Likewise, it appreciates the support of Barlovento, Garafía and Puntagorda, municipalities through which the route of this event also runs, as well as that of the rest of the municipalities that are part of this project, such as Puntallana and Tijarafe. The RTA also has the support of the Island Council of La Palma, through its areas of Tourism, Sports and Infrastructure, as well as the Tourism Department of the Government of the Canary Islands.
