37% of Americans believe they would make a better president of the United States than the current candidates. The poll by Talker Research, which includes 500 Democrats and 500 Republicans, explored the issues voters care most about.

On June 27, President Joe Biden and Donald Trump will have the first presidential debate of the 2024 election season, and 61% of Americans plan to watch it.

The top three issues Americans want the candidates to discuss are rising costs of living (50%), inflation (49%), and immigration (38%).

However, Democrats and Republicans differ on which issues are most important.

Only 18% of Democrats consider immigration a key issue, compared to 51% of Republicans.

Abortion and access to health care are also important to many, with 45% of Democrats prioritizing these issues, ranking just behind rising cost of living (51%). Only 15% of Republicans think the same about these issues.

Interest in climate change is higher among Democrats (29%) than Republicans (7%), and global conflicts in Israel, Palestine and Ukraine are slightly more important to Democrats (18% vs. 13%).

The controversy and legal battles surrounding Donald Trump, including his recent conviction for 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, have captured the public’s attention.

73% of Democrats and 59% of Republicans had paid attention to the recent trial.

Following the verdict, 47% of respondents plan to pay more attention to the upcoming trials, although 16% of Republicans plan to pay less attention to them.
