A strong explosion was reported on the night of this Sunday, June 9, in the vicinity of Poligrafica, a company linked to Mayor Luis Chonillo.
After the alert, police personnel were deployed to that area where several industries are located.

It is known that a threatening pamphlet was found naming the mayor.
Poligrafica is a company linked to the graphic printing industry, which is located at km 3.5 of the Durán-Tambo highway.
Mayor Chonillo then referred to the issue, indicating that it is a slogan of groups that want to take power.
“Tonight’s explosion in the vicinity of Poligrafica makes clear the slogan of these groups that want to take power and thereby get their hands on Durán’s public funds,” he said on his X network.

The official indicated that terror is an instrument of intimidation. “Those of us who resist in this fight do so in total inequality, and without true and serious support from those in charge of the country’s security,” he indicated.
The explosion in Durán occurs at a time when the Government is trying to contain outbreaks of violence in certain cantons of the country. Among those cantons is Durán.
Chonillo, who suffered an attack at the beginning of his administration, has had to wear a vest and helmet for public activities.
In Durán there is a strong conflict between the Chone Killers and Latin King.
From January 1 to May 1, 2024, there were 170 murders in the Durán canton, while from June to December 2023, nearly 380 cases were registered, adding 550 victims in the context of the dispute. (YO)
