Carter Gordon is the latest Wallaby to switch football codes and will join the Gold Coast Titans on a two-year contract starting in 2025.

Gordon, 23, was the Wallabies’ starting number 10 in the disastrous 2023 World Cup after a surprise call-up from Eddie Jones, but that hasn’t stopped him from pursuing an NRL career.

He featured in the Rebels’ final match last weekend, but with the Tremendous Rugby club closed by Rugby Australia, players were forced to look elsewhere for contracts.

Gordon cited the “direction rugby league was taking” for his decision to join the Titans on a two-year deal, having played eight times for the Wallabies since making his international debut against the Springboks in 2023.

“I’m excited about the direction rugby league is taking and the positive sentiment around the game,” Gordon said.

Titans coach Des Hasler said Gordon was a player who

Titans coach Des Hasler said Gordon was a player who “backs himself” and was impressed by his attitude.

‘At 23 years old, I feel like I had to take this opportunity now. ‘I have no illusions and I understand that this will be a huge challenge.

‘I was really impressed with the Titans and the professionalism they showed in our meetings.

“I loved my time in rugby because it gave me the opportunity to represent my country, something I will always appreciate.”

Gordon’s move comes after Wallabies winger Mark Nawaqanitawase signed with the Sydney Roosters for the 2025 season and is another blow for Australian rugby.

Gold Coast Titans coach Des Hasler said Gordon was a player who “backs himself” and is confident he will make a successful transition to the NRL.

“Carter has competed well in rugby, representing his country and playing in the World Cup,” Hasler said.

‘What has impressed me is your attitude to challenge yourself and take on the challenge of switching to a new code. “He is a talented player who backs himself.”

Gordon will join the Titans for the 2025 and 2026 NRL seasons.
