One month after the final of Eurovision 2024, details and data of interest continue to emerge about the latest edition of the contest and the Spanish participation of RTVE. On this occasion, the corporation provides data from the votes that were carried out from Spain during this edition.

Through a request from the specialized ESC Plus portal through the Transparency portalthe public channel provides the complete breakdown of the scores, both from the second semi-final, on May 9, and from the final, on May 11.

Online voting, the majority preferred

Adding all forms of voting, both modality and traditional, RTVE received a total of 175,232 votes between the two galas. In the second semi-finalwere counted 21,599 voteswhich corresponds to 12.33% of the total; while during the final the number amounts to 153,633 voteswhich implies the remaining and majority 87.67%.

Regarding the way of voting, it stands out that The way through the web far surpasses the traditional mechanics of televoting through call or text message. 8.16% of the votes on both nights (a total of 14,303) were made by telephone call; It should be said that RTVE does not specify whether it was through a landline or mobile device. On the other hand, 22.96% (40,226) opted to vote via SMS. Thus, the majority way was through the online platform, with 120,703 votes, which is equivalent to 68.88% of these.

In the semifinal, the online vote was 13,200, compared to 6,259 SMS and 2,140 calls; In the final, the numbers are multiplied, with 107,503 online votes, by 33,967 SMS and 12,163 calls.

It must be remembered that the novelty of the edition was the possibility of voting from the very beginning of the gala. In addition to this, online voting has been decisive for the increase in televoting. With respect to the participation of Spanish spectators in Eurovision, these contrast 175,232 votes received in 2024 with 74,315 votes received in 2023 and 93,762 in 2022.

The total collection of televoting in Spain

Regarding the collection of the Eurovision 2024 televote, we must first specify the cost of the vote: in the case of SMS, the cost was 1.09 euros, the same as from the web; Telephone calls are charged at 1.45 euros from a mobile network and 2 euros from a fixed network.

Another key element must also be taken into consideration: The total collection is not the same as the income that corresponds to RTVE. As was already the case with Eurovision 2023, the corporation has not specified what percentage of the amount it corresponds to. It must be remembered that the management of televoting is not the direct responsibility of the public broadcaster, but of the European Broadcasting Union, which determines the company that coordinates televoting at a continental level and then closes agreements with radio and television stations.

That said, the total raised between the second semi-final and the grand final of Eurovision 2024 is between 196,151.96 euros and 204,018.61 euros. Without the breakdown according to the type of device, it is not possible to specify, although ESCPlus advocates using the middle ground between both quantities, to an average of 200,085.29 euros.

Taking into account the data provided above, The online vote represented a total of 131,566.27 euros, compared to 43,846.34 euros per SMS. Regarding telephone calls, they range between €200,739.35 (resulting from calculating calls from landline devices) and €28,606 (adding only calls from mobile phones at €2.00).

As we said, RTVE has not provided the data on the income that corresponds to it from televoting, so the percentage of benefit for the corporation cannot be calculated. At Eurovision, that percentage was around 70%.

Israel invested large sums to encourage voting

It is convenient to put these data in relation to what the results of the Spanish televoting were. A televote that awarded its 12 points to the controversial Israel candidacy led by Eden Golan. The participation of the Jewish state in the full Israeli offensive in Gaza, with more than 37,000 dead in the stripin its largest number civilians, has been and continues to be a month later the great controversy of the edition, leading to numerous conflicts during the days of the contest and some loud boos of the Israeli at the final gala.

That contrasted with the high televote received by the candidacy, which finished in fifth position. After knowing the ‘trick’ of the 20 votes that facilitated the Zionist mobilization in favor of Eden Golanit is now confirmed that this support was preceded by a campaign from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Israeli government publicity office.David Sarangaacting director of public diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, admitted that from the organization “We intervened among the public that sympathized with us to encourage voting”.

According to information reported by Slovenian television RTV, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs invested a lot of money in the “promotion campaign” and furthermore, he tasked his representatives in European countries with encouraging people to vote for Israel. This campaign, according to the aforementioned Israeli Ynet, was led by Eden Golan herself, who addressed her followers in French, Italian, Spanish, German, Czech, Latvian, Estonian, Albanian, Georgian and English to ask for the vote. .
