Argentina agrees to a ninth addendum with Bolivia for the provision of natural gas

Buenos Aires, June 16 (EFE).- The state-owned Energía Argentina (Enarsa) and Yacimientos Petroleros Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB) agreed on the provision of natural gas, which will be supplied to the provinces of northern Argentina between the months of August and September, they reported. this Sunday official sources.

According to a statement from Enarsa, this ninth addendum will allow the central and northern area of Argentina to be supplied with up to 4 million cubic meters per day (MMm3/d) as required by internal demand, while the Government of Javier Milei finalizes the Reversion of the Northern Gasduct.

“This Reversal project of the TGN (Transportadora de Gas del Norte) gas pipeline is estimated to be in operation on September 15, allowing the northern provinces to be brought to the northern provinces with an additional 5 MMm3/day to the current ones and in a second stage another 4 MMm3/day,” Enarsa indicated in a statement.

Once completed, Argentina hopes to be able to take advantage of Vaca Muerta’s unconventional gas production in the south and distribute it to the north of the country. The total budget for the work amounts to 720 million dollars, of which 540 million were part of a loan from the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean in its interest in supporting the energy transition.

The work, under the supervision of Enarsa, will provide gas to the provinces of Santiago del Estero, Tucumán, Catamarca, Salta, Jujuy, La Rioja and Córdoba.

Although last March, Bolivia announced that it would end its natural gas export commitments to Argentina in June of this year, due to an alleged shortage, the YPFB reported in April that, although production decreased, it was enough to cover its internal demand. and its current contracts with Argentina and Brazil.
